Lead Full Stack Engineer

About the role

Optum is seeking a Lead Full Stack Engineer to drive the design, development, and deployment of backend services that power AI/ML and Generative AI pipelines in the healthcare domain. This senior technical leader will shape architecture, ensure high‑quality delivery, and mentor a multidisciplinary engineering team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the creation of scalable, reliable backend APIs and microservices using Node.js (TypeScript) and Python.
• Design and maintain AI pipeline infrastructure, including model execution, prompt orchestration, feature extraction, and integration with vector databases.
• Implement FHIR‑compliant integrations with Electronic Health Record systems to enable secure clinical data exchange.
• Collaborate with data science, clinical informatics, product, and platform teams to translate requirements into robust backend solutions.
• Establish and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and CI/CD pipelines for secure, repeatable deployments.
• Ensure high availability, performance, observability, privacy, and security of all backend services handling PHI.
