Lead Software Engineer – Backend & Platform (Agentic AI)

About the role

Mastercard is looking for a Lead Software Engineer to drive the design and delivery of high‑performance backend platforms that power Agentic AI decisioning across its global network. You will work with a talented team to build secure, scalable, and maintainable Java‑based services that support real‑time intelligence for millions of transactions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead day‑to‑day development and maintenance activities, ensuring service level agreements are met.
• Own the full software development lifecycle, from requirements and design through testing, release, and deployment.
• Collaborate with architects, product owners, business analysts, and other engineering leads in Dublin and worldwide.
• Develop high‑quality, secure, and performant Java services that support AI models and business rules.
• Create detailed technical artifacts such as test strategies, performance benchmarks, rollout plans, and contingency procedures.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading development teams in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment.
• Strong understanding of the complete software development lifecycle and agile delivery practices.
• Ability to work cross‑functionally with stakeholders across multiple locations.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and a focus on innovation, cost‑effectiveness, and rapid time‑to‑market.
