Lead Software Engineer

About the role

Mastercard is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to drive quality engineering across its payment processing platforms. The role combines deep software development expertise with performance engineering to ensure high‑quality releases.

Key responsibilities

• Drive quality engineering, exploratory testing, and test automation for mobile, web, and API services.
• Promote adoption of development services such as Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, and Performance Engineering across delivery teams.
• Collaborate with Quality Engineers, Developers, DevOps, Product and Program Management to define project scope and deliver services.
• Ensure staff have the necessary skills and behaviors through effective communication and performance planning.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience with quality engineering practices.
• Proven success leading small to large‑scale software development, testing and performance initiatives.
• Strong understanding of payments domain message flows, ISO protocols and related architecture.
• Experience preparing and delivering executive‑level presentations.

Required skills

• Java, Spring, JUnit, Eclipse IDE, Rest Assured, Appium, JBehave/Cucumber.
• REST/SOAP APIs, databases, JIRA/Rally/Rational Concert.
• Continuous Integration tools (Jenkins, Bamboo) and code‑coverage tools (Sonar, Clover, Checkmarx/Fortify).
• Performance testing tools (LoadRunner, JMeter) and monitoring tools (Dynatrace, Splunk).
• Cloud/IaC concepts and tools (Chef, Puppet).
• Cross‑browser/device testing platforms (Perfecto, Device Anywhere, Testdroid).
