Lecturer/Assistant Professor – Modern Irish (2-year contract)

About the role

The School of Irish, Celtic Studies and Folklore at University College Dublin invites applications for a temporary two‑year appointment as Lecturer/Assistant Professor in Modern Irish. The successful candidate will join a vibrant academic community and contribute to both teaching and research programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver a range of undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Modern Irish.
• Teach the Modern Irish language at all levels of the programme.
• Contribute to modules taught in English within Folklore, Celtic Studies and Irish Studies.
• Maintain an active research agenda with publications appropriate to career stage.
• Develop and lead new research proposals and seek funding opportunities.

Required profile

• Demonstrated high‑quality research capability in Modern Irish.
• Publication record commensurate with the seniority of an Assistant Professor.
• Ability to teach effectively across undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• Proactive approach to securing research funding and leading projects.

Required skills

• Teaching and curriculum development in Modern Irish.
• Research methodology and scholarly writing in Irish language studies.

What we offer

• Salary range €66,055 – €104,600 per annum.
• Fixed‑term appointment for two years, with the possibility of renewal.
