Manager, Software Engineering

About the role

The Manager, Software Engineering will lead a high‑performing team responsible for building, scaling and operating Mastercard's Authentication Decisioning platform. This role blends people leadership, technical execution and operational excellence to deliver real‑time authentication and risk decisions at global scale.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, coach and develop a high‑performing engineering team.
• Drive delivery of roadmap initiatives, balancing new features, platform modernisation and technical debt reduction.
• Partner with architects and senior engineers to design scalable, resilient and secure solutions.
• Own reliability, performance, availability and incident management for mission‑critical services.
• Champion best practices such as CI/CD, automated testing, observability and secure software development.
• Collaborate across Engineering, Product, Security, Operations and customer‑facing teams.
• Support hiring, performance management, succession planning and employee development.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading software engineering teams delivering large‑scale distributed systems.
• Strong background in backend development, system design and cloud‑native or service‑oriented architectures.
• Experience operating mission‑critical platforms with high availability and performance requirements.
• Excellent stakeholder management and ability to influence technical and business organisations.
• Track record of delivering in fast‑paced environments with competing priorities.
