Mechanical Engineer – Energy Infrastructure

About the role

Arup’s Energy team is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to design and deliver high‑performance mechanical and energy systems for complex infrastructure projects across Ireland and the UK. You will join a well‑established group, receive strong technical mentorship, and work on projects that support the transition to a low‑carbon, resilient energy system.

Key responsibilities

• Develop mechanical design packages for gas transmission, distribution, and emerging energy infrastructure.
• Produce design reports, calculations, PFDs, P&IDs, mechanical arrangements, and hazardous‑area drawings.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (Mechanical, Process, Civil, E&I, drafting) to ensure coordinated design outputs.
• Support project budget, schedule, and deliverable management to meet agreed targets.
• Plan and manage workload, applying quality‑assurance procedures throughout the design lifecycle.

Required profile

• Qualified Mechanical Engineer with experience in energy or infrastructure projects.
• Ability to work from early feasibility studies through detailed design and delivery.
• Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail.
• Effective communication skills within multidisciplinary teams.

Required skills

• Mechanical design for gas transmission and distribution systems.
• Production of PFDs, P&IDs, and hazardous‑area drawings.
• Design calculations and technical reporting.
• Project budgeting and schedule coordination.
