Mechanical Engineer – Power Generation & Utilities

About the role

Newmont is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to lead reliability and asset management for power generation and utility assets at its Lihir gold mine in Papua New Guinea. You will shape maintenance strategies, improve equipment availability and support sustainable mining operations.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct reliability assessments and analyse asset performance to identify improvement opportunities.
• Develop and optimise maintenance and asset management strategies for power generation and utility systems.
• Lead root‑cause investigations and implement corrective actions to eliminate recurring failures.
• Monitor reliability KPIs, trends and emerging risks to support decision‑making.
• Apply data analytics tools and reliability methodologies to enhance equipment availability and performance.

Required profile

• Experience in mechanical engineering within power generation, utilities or mining environments.
• Strong analytical mindset with ability to interpret data and drive continuous improvement.
• Proven ability to lead investigations and work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
