Mid-Level Data Engineer

About the role

Kitman Labs is seeking a Mid-Level Data Engineer to strengthen its data platform that powers performance intelligence for top sports teams worldwide. You will collaborate with engineers, data scientists, and product teams to turn raw sports data into reliable, scalable foundations.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain BigQuery data models using Dataform following medallion (Bronze/Silver/Gold) architecture.
• Develop and enhance Looker dashboards and LookML models.
• Write performant, well‑structured SQL for large‑scale transformations.
• Implement data quality checks with Dataform assertions and automated alerting.
• Monitor data observability, pipeline health, freshness, and anomalies.
• Build robust Python data pipelines with testing, linting, and CI/CD integration.
• Orchestrate workflows using Cloud Composer or Airflow and work with CDC/event‑driven ingestion (Datastream, Pub/Sub).
• Containerise workloads with Docker for deployment on Cloud Run or similar GCP services.
• Support Data Scientists in moving notebooks to production pipelines and creating feature pipelines for ML workloads.

Required profile

• Strong SQL proficiency, especially with BigQuery.
• Experience with Dataform or dbt and a version‑controlled data‑transformation mindset.
• Solid Python coding skills, clean, tested, and linted code, with Git and CI/CD familiarity.
• Hands‑on GCP experience (BigQuery required; Cloud Storage, Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, Datastream a plus).
• Practical knowledge of orchestration tools such as Cloud Composer or Airflow.
• Understanding of data modelling fundamentals (dimensional modelling, Kimball, medallion patterns).
• Basic Docker skills for containerisation and deployment.
• Collaborative communication style to translate business needs into technical solutions.
