Ocean Freight Operations Apprentice

About the role

The Ocean Freight Operations Apprentice will support the Ocean Freight Operations team at DHL Global Forwarding in Dublin. Working closely with the Ocean Freight Operations Manager, you will gain hands‑on experience in booking, tracking and managing ocean shipments while ensuring high levels of customer service.

Key responsibilities

• Book LCL and FCL shipments with shipping lines, agents and overseas offices.
• Organise pickups and deliveries and ensure all required documentation is completed accurately and on time.
• Track shipments, handle customer complaints and resolve invoice queries.
• Maintain excellent relationships with internal and external suppliers and ensure compliance with export/import regulations.
• Process accounts payable invoices, manage billing and EDI invoicing for customer shipments.
• Support the implementation of operational processes and adhere to Good Distribution Practice for Life Science shipments where required.
• Act as the first point of contact for customers, managing door‑to‑door activities and communicating any exceptions promptly.
• Collaborate with internal teams (transport, finance, product, GSC) and overseas offices to meet customer requirements.

Required profile

• Enrolled in a relevant academic programme and able to attend college one day per week during the academic year.
• Available to work Monday‑Friday, 09:00‑17:30.
• Strong command of written English.
• Interest in logistics, ocean freight and international trade processes.
