About the role

The Centre for Irish Studies at the University of Galway invites applications for a part‑time Lecturer (0.5 FTE) on a Specific‑Purpose Contract (A). The role focuses on modern Irish culture studies and contributes to the Centre’s interdisciplinary teaching, research and public engagement agenda.

Key responsibilities

• Teach across Irish Studies programmes, including coordination of International Study Abroad programmes.
• Develop an innovative teaching portfolio and a research agenda in modern Irish culture.
• Foster interdisciplinary collaborations and pursue external research funding.
• Participate in the administration and development of the Discipline and School.
• Engage in bilingual scholarship, public outreach and align activities with Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) and sustainability values.

Required profile

• Interdisciplinary scholar with a record or strong potential for internationally recognised teaching and research in Irish Studies or related fields.
• Demonstrated ability to develop collaborations and secure research funding.
• Commitment to inclusive, bilingual pedagogical practices.
• Willingness to coordinate study‑abroad programmes and work with university partners.

Required skills

• Expertise in modern Irish culture, literature, music or related disciplines.
• Experience in curriculum design and innovative teaching methods.
• Strong research skills and a publication record.
• Proficiency in both Irish and English for bilingual instruction.
