Planner – Shutdown

About the role

The Planner – Shutdown will coordinate and optimise the planning of critical Oxygen Plant shutdowns at Newmont’s Lihir operation. You will work closely with Maintenance, Operations and external contractors to ensure shutdowns are executed safely, on schedule and within budget.

Key responsibilities

• Develop comprehensive shutdown plans, schedules and readiness activities using Newmont’s SMSI shutdown readiness system.
• Prepare and coordinate detailed work packs, documentation and execution plans for seamless delivery.
• Monitor progress, identify schedule risks and implement adjustments to protect critical milestones.
• Ensure all materials, tooling, equipment and contractor resources are staged and ready before shutdown commencement.
• Lead risk assessments, implement mitigation strategies and continuously monitor emerging risks throughout the shutdown lifecycle.

Required profile

• Proven experience in shutdown planning, maintenance coordination or a similar heavy‑industry environment.
• Strong understanding of statutory, safety and environmental requirements with a commitment to compliance.
• Broad knowledge of maintenance trades and how multiple disciplines interact during complex shutdowns.
• Significant practical experience as a maintenance tradesperson or in a maintenance‑focused role.

Required skills

• Microsoft Project for resource levelling, scheduling and cost control.
• Risk assessment and mitigation planning.
