Respiratory Registrar – General Medicine

About the role

Portiuncula University Hospital is seeking a Respiratory Registrar to join its General Medicine Department. The successful candidate will work within a busy acute hospital serving East Galway and surrounding counties, providing specialist respiratory care to in‑patients.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive respiratory assessment, diagnosis and management for acute and chronic cases.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, ward rounds and emergency department cover.
• Supervise and teach junior doctors and medical students in respiratory medicine.
• Contribute to audit, research and quality improvement projects within the department.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and adhere to hospital policies.

Required profile

• Active registration with the Irish Medical Council.
• Minimum three years of experience in respiratory medicine, preferably in Ireland.
• Successful completion of all relevant membership examinations.
• Valid BLS and ACLS certifications.
• Evidence of English language proficiency (OET or IELTS) where applicable.

Required skills

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• OET or IELTS certification (if required)
