Senior Backend Engineer (Systems & Production)

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to own the performance, reliability and correctness of a distributed, event‑driven SaaS platform in production. Based in Cork with a hybrid schedule, you will bridge backend development and production operations, shaping how services are built and run at scale.

Key responsibilities

• Improve system performance, scalability and reliability under real production load.
• Identify and resolve inefficiencies in code, data models and service interactions.
• Design safe retries, idempotent operations and predictable behaviour for distributed services.
• Contribute to backend services written in C#/.NET and debug complex async workflows.
• Enhance observability through logging, metrics and tracing to make systems diagnosable.
• Influence engineering standards, design decisions and code quality across multiple teams.

Required profile

• Strong backend experience with C#/.NET or equivalent.
• Hands‑on experience building and operating complex, distributed systems beyond simple CRUD.
• Ability to reason about concurrency, failure modes and eventual consistency.
• Proven track record diagnosing performance bottlenecks and data‑related issues.
• Solid understanding of SQL and/or NoSQL databases at scale.
• Pragmatic, root‑cause analysis mindset focused on real‑world behaviour.
