Senior Laboratory Technician – Semiconductor R&D

About the role

Our client, a leading multinational semiconductor telecom company, is seeking a Senior Laboratory Technician to join the Custom CPU Power & Performance team in Cork City, Ireland. You will work on‑site five days a week, assembling, setting up and deploying test systems in a fast‑moving R&D laboratory.

Key responsibilities

• Assemble, configure and deploy systems under test according to established procedures.
• Perform set‑up, maintenance and repairs of test equipment, documenting issues and solutions.
• Debug and troubleshoot hardware and firmware failures, reporting root causes and recommendations.
• Manage inventory, asset tracking, system orders and shipping/receiving activities.
• Collaborate with Custom CPU engineers to execute test plans and collect data efficiently.
• Provide status updates and communicate obstacles across multidisciplinary teams.

Required profile

• 7+ years of experience as a semiconductor R&D technician or in related testing/measurement roles.
• Proven ability to follow and adapt test procedures with minimal supervision.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for conveying technical information.
• Experience working in a multi‑OS environment, particularly Linux.

• Use of oscilloscopes, multimeters and standard laboratory equipment.
• Reading schematics and Allegro board files.
• Advanced PCB soldering.
• Inventory management and asset tracking.
• Linux operating system.
• BIOS/Firmware imaging and system power‑up.
• Debugging and troubleshooting of hardware and firmware issues.
• Assembly, setup and deployment of test systems in an R&D setting.
