Senior Medical Officer – Primary Care (Ireland)

About the role

The Health Service Executive (HSE) West and North West Community Services is seeking a Senior Medical Officer to join its Primary Care team in Mayo. This part‑time, permanent position provides clinical leadership and specialist expertise within the public health system.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality primary care services to the local population.
• Provide clinical governance, mentorship and supervision to junior medical staff.
• Participate in regional health planning, service development and quality improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across Galway, Mayo and Roscommon to ensure integrated care pathways.
• Maintain compliance with HSE policies, statutory regulations and professional standards.

Required profile

• Medical qualification recognised in Ireland and registration with the Medical Council of Ireland.
• Significant experience in primary care, preferably in a senior or supervisory role.
• Demonstrated ability to work within a public‑service environment and to manage complex clinical caseloads.
• Commitment to continuous professional development and evidence‑based practice.
