Software Engineer - Agentic AI & API Platform

About the role

Join Workday’s Product Engineering team to build agent‑ready APIs that power the next generation of intelligent experiences. You will develop and maintain backend services that enable fast, secure, and observable integrations for Workday products and agentic capabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain product APIs and backend services.
• Implement robust API behaviors such as routing, validation, authentication/authorization, transformation, and error handling.
• Contribute to high‑throughput, low‑latency components focusing on resiliency, scalability, and fault tolerance.
• Apply API contract and governance practices using OpenAPI/Swagger and internal standards.
• Build and improve frameworks and tooling for defining, publishing, and maintaining REST, SOAP, and GraphQL APIs.
• Use observability (metrics, tracing, logging) to monitor production behavior and drive performance improvements.
• Write clean, well‑documented, testable code and contribute unit, integration, and contract tests.
• Participate in design and code reviews, share knowledge through documentation and mentoring.

Required profile

• Experience developing APIs and backend services for large‑scale applications.
• Comfort working with distributed systems and delivering reliable developer experiences.
