Software Engineer II

About the role

Toast is looking for a Software Engineer II to help build and scale its labor cost and time‑keeping platforms that serve more than 166,000 restaurant locations. You will work on high‑visibility, mission‑critical infrastructure that processes tens of millions of shift events each week.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, test and deploy backend services for next‑generation time‑keeping systems.
• Maintain and improve large‑scale, data‑intensive systems handling billions of shift records.
• Collaborate with product, design and other engineers to shape features and architecture.
• Participate in code reviews, monitoring, troubleshooting and performance optimisation.
• Take end‑to‑end ownership of services from conception through production.

Required profile

• Solid fundamentals in software engineering and object‑oriented programming.
• Ability and motivation to learn quickly and apply knowledge to real problems.
• Willingness to monitor, debug and improve system performance using logs and metrics.
• Enthusiasm for tackling challenging projects at massive scale.
