Software Engineer – Linux Kernel Engineering (Waterford)

About the role

Red Hat’s Linux Kernel Engineering team is expanding its RISC‑V hardware enablement group. As a Software Engineer you will work on Linux kernel development to bring new RISC‑V platforms to Fedora and Red Hat Enterprise Linux, collaborating with both internal teams and the broader open‑source community.

Key responsibilities

• Backport hardware enablement patches and bug‑fixes from the upstream kernel into Fedora Linux, then into Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
• Develop new kernel features and contribute code upstream for RISC‑V platforms.
• Package the kernel for delivery and ensure it meets Red Hat quality standards.
• Collaborate with RISC‑V partners, engineering, quality, product management, documentation, and build teams.
• Participate actively in the upstream Linux community, including patch submission and review.

Required profile

• Proven experience in Linux kernel development or board bring‑up.
• Familiarity with development board schematics, Device Tree and U‑boot.
• Knowledge of Git and upstream kernel patch posting procedures.
• Ability to backport upstream code, configure, build, and test kernels.
• Self‑motivated and capable of working in a small, distributed team.
