Special Advisor to the Minister of State – Finance (Financial Services, Credit Unions & Insurance)

About the role

The Department of Finance is seeking a highly skilled Special Advisor to support the Minister of State on financial services, credit unions and insurance. This senior position sits at the heart of government, requiring acute political awareness, strong media‑relations expertise, and the ability to influence policy and public narrative.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic media advice and execute communications plans aligned with departmental and Programme for Government objectives.
• Develop speeches, press releases, media responses and digital content for the Minister.
• Assist in drafting legislation and policy proposals that reflect government priorities and industry needs.
• Prepare briefings, policy notes and talking points for use in the Dáil, Seanad and with external stakeholders.
• Build and maintain relationships with senior officials, industry representatives, interest groups and other key stakeholders.
• Monitor emerging issues and deliver timely, coordinated responses.

Required profile

• Extensive senior‑level experience in media relations, communications or public policy.
• Strong understanding of the Irish and international media landscape.
• Proven ability to manage public‑ and private‑sector stakeholders.
• Deep knowledge of the Irish political system and public‑policy processes.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex topics.
