Staff Nurse – General Stroke (Acute) – Connolly Hospital

About the role

The Health Service Executive is seeking an experienced Staff Nurse to join the General Stroke team at Connolly Hospital. This full‑time, permanent position involves delivering high‑quality nursing care to patients experiencing acute stroke, supporting their recovery within a fast‑paced hospital environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to patients admitted with acute stroke, following clinical protocols and best practice guidelines.
• Conduct comprehensive assessments, monitor vital signs, and administer prescribed treatments and medications.
• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including physicians, physiotherapists, and speech‑language therapists, to develop and implement individualized care plans.
• Document patient observations and interventions accurately in the electronic health record.
• Educate patients and families about stroke management, rehabilitation, and secondary prevention strategies.

Required profile

• Registered General Nurse (RGN) with current registration on the NMBI register.
• Demonstrated recent experience in acute stroke nursing or a comparable acute hospital setting.
• Strong clinical knowledge of stroke pathways, assessment tools, and emergency care procedures.
• Ability to work effectively in a high‑pressure environment and make timely clinical decisions.

Required skills

• Proficiency in using the hospital’s electronic patient record system.
