Staff Nurse Orthopaedics

About the role

The Staff Nurse Orthopaedics will join a multidisciplinary team at UPMC Whitfield Hospital, delivering high‑quality, patient‑centred care to orthopaedic patients and their families. This full‑time permanent role involves direct clinical work, mentorship of students and new staff, and collaboration across the hospital.

Key responsibilities

• Provide safe, evidence‑based nursing care to orthopaedic patients, acting as a patient advocate.
• Precept preregistration nursing students and mentor new clinical and non‑clinical staff.
• Maintain effective communication with the multidisciplinary team, consultants, patients and carers.
• Support the unit manager with agreed responsibilities and contribute to unit and hospital policies.
• Ensure compliance with clinical risk reporting, health and safety, and patient moving and handling procedures.
• Maintain professional registration and adhere to NMBI standards.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with current NMBI registration.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Experience or willingness to act as a preceptor/mentor for students and new staff.
• Commitment to continuous professional development and adherence to hospital policies.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) / Resuscitation.
• Clinical risk reporting.
• Patient moving and handling.
