Structural Engineer – Mining Operations

About the role

Newmont is seeking a Structural Engineer to provide civil and structural design, modifications, and technical support for its Lihir gold processing plant and mine site infrastructure. The role combines office‑based engineering work with on‑site inspections and stakeholder engagement on a FIFO roster.

Key responsibilities

• Develop civil and structural designs and calculations in accordance with relevant codes and standards.
• Review and advise on proposed structural modifications for the process plant and mine infrastructure.
• Conduct site inspections and prepare conceptual design options for presentation to clients and stakeholders.
• Produce detailed construction‑ready drawings and liaise with internal teams and external consultants.
• Identify and mitigate risks related to structural designs and construction methods.
• Provide technical support during construction and installation to ensure compliance with design specifications.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• 3‑5 years of structural engineering experience in mining or heavy industry.
• Registered with IEPNG and a valid Class 6 driving licence.
• Strong attention to detail, planning and organizational skills, and ability to work with minimal supervision.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Space Gass software.
• Knowledge of Australian Standards for steel structures and structural concrete.
• Ability to perform engineering calculations and prepare/interpret engineering drawings.
• Competence in using Microsoft Office suite.
