Technician – Driller for Mine Production

About the role

Newmont is seeking experienced, safety‑focused Technician Drillers to join the Drill & Blast team at its Lihir Operations in Papua New Guinea. The role involves operating production drilling equipment to meet mine production targets while upholding Newmont’s Zero Harm commitment.

Key responsibilities

• Safely operate production drill fleets, including D65 and Pit Viper rigs, to achieve daily production goals.
• Conduct pre‑start inspections, report equipment defects, and complete critical control checks before high‑risk tasks.
• Ensure drilling follows approved designs, specifications, and PNG mining regulations.
• Report hazards, unsafe conditions, and geotechnical risks promptly.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years’ experience operating production drills in a large‑scale surface mining environment.
• Valid PNG Class 6 driver’s licence (preferred but not mandatory).
• Strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and operational discipline.
• Ability to interpret drilling plans, survey designs, and mine production requirements.

Required skills

• Operation of production drill rigs, specifically D65 and Pit Viper fleets.
• Knowledge of rotary and hammer drilling principles.
• Practical troubleshooting and mechanical aptitude.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities for effective teamwork.
