Voluntary Board Director (Legal)

About the role

Oakdene House CLG is seeking a voluntary Board Director with legal expertise to strengthen its governance. The role supports the Board in interpreting statutory obligations, reviewing contracts and funding agreements, and managing legal risk for a charity that provides supported sheltered accommodation for older adults in Cork.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret and advise on charity law, housing regulation, employment, property and corporate governance matters.
• Review and evaluate contracts, funding agreements and governing documents.
• Identify and communicate legal risks early, providing practical guidance to the Board.
• Act as a liaison between the Board and external legal advisors when specialist input is required.
• Contribute to the development of robust governance policies and regulatory compliance frameworks.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following: employment law, housing/property law, charity or company law, regulatory compliance.
• Ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear, actionable advice for a volunteer board.
• Commitment to the mission of supporting vulnerable older adults.
• Willingness to dedicate time for board meetings and related duties.

Required skills

• Understanding of charity and housing regulatory frameworks.
