Associate Professor in Cryptography

About the role

The School of Computer Science and Engineering at UNSW seeks an Associate Professor to lead research and teaching in cryptography and secure computation. This senior academic position will shape the strategic direction of the discipline, mentor emerging researchers, and enhance the school’s national and international reputation.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct high‑impact research in post‑quantum cryptography, quantum algorithms, and cryptographic protocol design.
• Secure competitive research funding and lead interdisciplinary research initiatives.
• Supervise higher degree research students to successful completion.
• Deliver high‑quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and contribute to curriculum development.
• Engage with industry partners and contribute to the school’s strategic planning and governance.

Required profile

• Established academic with a strong, sustained record of high‑impact publications in cryptography.
• National or international reputation in the field.
• Proven ability to obtain research grants and lead research teams.
• Experience in supervising PhD candidates and delivering university‑level teaching.
• Demonstrated leadership and collaborative skills within academia and industry.
