Clinical Nurse Facilitator – Infection Prevention & Control

About the role

The Clinical Nurse Facilitator will join the multidisciplinary team at UPMC Sports Surgery Clinic to lead infection prevention and control (IPC) initiatives. This permanent position focuses on safeguarding patients and staff by implementing evidence‑based practices and fostering a culture of safety.

Key responsibilities

• Act as a role model for IPC best practice and provide professional leadership across the clinic.
• Deliver specialist advice and consultancy to nursing and other healthcare personnel on antimicrobial resistance and infectious disease control.
• Develop and maintain an IPC strategy in partnership with the IPC lead.
• Design, conduct and report on audits related to infection control, presenting findings to the Infection Prevention and Control Committee.
• Monitor clinical practice, KPIs and hygiene standards, ensuring rapid communication of IPC information.
• Educate staff on isolation procedures, transmission‑based precautions and outbreak investigation.
• Mentor colleagues, coordinate learning opportunities such as journal clubs and conferences, and support managers in policy implementation.
• Provide patient and caregiver education on specific microorganisms and act as an advocate for infection‑related concerns.
