Direct Entry Medical Officer

About the role

The Defence Forces are seeking qualified medical professionals to join as Direct Entry Medical Officers. You will provide comprehensive medical care to personnel both in Ireland and overseas, while also leading and managing the Medical Branch.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver primary care, health protection, and environmental medicine to service members.
• Lead, motivate and manage medical personnel within the Defence Forces.
• Participate in medical missions at home and abroad, adapting to physical and mental challenges.
• Undertake a military induction course and subsequent training at St. Bricin’s Military Hospital.

Required profile

• Medical degree (M.B., B.Ch, B.A.O., or L.R.C.P. & S.I.H.) with full registration on the Medical Council of Ireland.
• Minimum three years post‑graduate clinical experience.
• Reasonable personal fitness and ability to plan, prioritize and organise.
• Clear, concise communication and teamwork skills.
