Lecturer/Assistant Professor in Contemporary Art History

About the role

The School of Art History and Cultural Policy at University College Dublin seeks a permanent Lecturer/Assistant Professor specializing in modern and contemporary art history (post‑1950). The successful candidate will join a vibrant research‑intensive department and contribute to both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

Key responsibilities

• Design, deliver and assess high‑quality taught modules in modern and contemporary art history.
• Undertake administrative duties assigned by the Head of School or nominee.
• Develop and pursue an individual scholarly research agenda.
• Supervise postgraduate research projects.
• Contribute actively to the department’s research culture and collaborative initiatives.

Required profile

• PhD in Art History or a closely related discipline.
• Proven teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• Research and teaching expertise beyond Irish art history, with a focus on art from 1950 to the present.
• Experience or interest in global and/or non‑Western art history is desirable.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a willingness to work as part of a team.
