Linux Administrator

About the role

EirGrid is seeking a Linux Administrator to support its Linux and Database team within the IT Infrastructure Department. The role involves managing physical and virtual Linux environments that underpin corporate functions and critical power system operations.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Linux & Database Team Lead in meeting project targets and operational KPIs.
• Install, configure, and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Oracle Linux systems.
• Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure high availability.
• Configure network interfaces, Ethernet devices, and manage HP ILO for servers.
• Manage storage solutions including SAN, NAS, RAID, multipathing, zoning, and LVM.
• Diagnose software, hardware, and network problems to identify root causes.
• Handle package installations, updates, and maintain software inventories.
• Configure, monitor, and manage backups and disaster‑recovery plans.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts using Bash and Python.
• Execute change‑management processes, system upgrades, and patch deployments.
• Implement OS firewalls, security configurations, and vulnerability management.
• Configure and troubleshoot virtualization environments.

Required profile

• Proven experience in Linux system administration, preferably with RHEL or Oracle Linux.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to work collaboratively within an IT team and support large‑scale projects.
