Maintenance Manager – Heavy Manufacturing

About the role

The Maintenance Manager will lead a multi‑disciplinary team in a heavy manufacturing environment, ensuring safety, reliability and continuous improvement of plant assets. You will be responsible for embedding preventive and predictive maintenance strategies while managing major shutdowns and projects.

Key responsibilities

• Drive a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with industry best practices.
• Lead, coach and develop mechanical and electrical supervisors, planners and technicians.
• Implement preventive and predictive maintenance programmes to maximise equipment uptime.
• Plan and execute maintenance projects, including major shutdowns and overhauls.
• Manage external contractors, plant hire and associated budgets.
• Maintain effective relationships with trade unions and resolve issues through structured processes.
• Collaborate with production and other departments to align operational activities.
• Oversee key assets such as kiln operations and major equipment maintenance.
• Manage projects from design through installation and commissioning.
• Deputise for the Engineering Manager when required.

Required profile

• Degree (Level 8/9) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role within heavy industry or manufacturing.
• Strong leadership, team‑development and communication skills.
• Proven technical expertise in maintenance and plant operations.
• Financial awareness with experience managing departmental budgets.
• High attention to detail and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Track record of driving performance improvements.
