MCP Engineer / AI Backend Engineer

About the role

This position sits at the intersection of backend engineering, AI systems, and modern cloud infrastructure. You will design and build MCP‑based services and AI‑powered backend systems that support internal teams and production workflows, working fully remotely from Ireland.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain MCP servers and integrations that enable reliable communication between AI agents and backend services.
• Build scalable backend APIs using TypeScript and Node.js, leveraging frameworks such as Hono, Fastify, NestJS, or Next.js.
• Create and deploy serverless/edge solutions on Cloudflare Workers, including KV, Durable Objects, Queues, R2, and D1.
• Develop AI‑driven workflows, including prompt design, tool definitions, and LLM integrations.
• Implement automation flows and service‑to‑service APIs with a focus on reliability, observability, and maintainability.
• Debug and optimise system behaviour across MCP infrastructure, backend services, and AI pipelines.

Required profile

• Strong professional experience with TypeScript and Node.js in backend development.
• Proven ability to build REST APIs, distributed systems, or backend services.
• Familiarity with serverless or edge environments, preferably Cloudflare Workers.
• Interest or experience in AI systems, large language models, and prompt engineering.
• High ownership mindset and comfort working independently in a fast‑moving environment.
