Principal Geotechnical Engineer

About the role

Rendel Ingerop is seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to lead and deliver geotechnical solutions on major infrastructure, transportation and energy projects in Ireland and abroad. Working within a small, multidisciplinary team, you will have broad exposure to all project phases and the opportunity to shape design outcomes for high‑profile assignments.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and undertake geotechnical assignments across Ireland and internationally, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
• Provide geotechnical design and analysis at conceptual, preliminary and detailed stages, adhering to local and international standards.
• Review internal and third‑party designs, perform value engineering and propose improvements.
• Conduct finite element analysis and produce comprehensive reports.
• Prepare drawings, calculations, specifications and technical reports for internal and client review.
• Carry out site inspections, investigations and supervision, liaising with designers and contractors.
• Monitor staff time and budgets, taking corrective actions as needed.
• Manage project programmes, budgets and client relationships, ensuring timely progress updates.
• Assist in resource planning to maximise fee income and utilisation.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading geotechnical projects in a consultancy environment.
• Ability to work across multiple disciplines and coordinate with external professionals.
• Strong analytical mindset with experience in value engineering and design optimisation.
• Excellent communication skills for client interaction and team leadership.
