Senior Software Development Engineer

About the role

Foxit is looking for a senior software engineer to help build and scale AI‑driven document systems. You will work on production services that ingest, manage, retrieve, and reason over large PDF collections, leveraging large language models for retrieval‑augmented generation.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and operate production‑grade Python services that power document and AI workflows.
• Own end‑to‑end document ingestion and management pipelines, ensuring reliability and scalability.
• Implement RAG and semantic search systems that combine LLMs with document retrieval.
• Develop prompting and context‑management strategies for real‑world usage.
• Build and maintain embedding pipelines and integrate vector databases.
• Implement and optimise PDF processing, including structure, metadata extraction, and layout handling.
• Design and maintain APIs for document services and AI capabilities.
• Deploy services using cloud infrastructure and containers, and set up monitoring, evaluation, and cost controls.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote best engineering practices.
• Collaborate with an experienced team and follow direction from leads.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 4–7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Advanced Python development skills for production back‑end services.
• Strong experience with large language models, prompt engineering, and context management.
• Proven ability to design RAG and semantic search systems.
• Hands‑on experience with embeddings and vector databases.
• Solid understanding of document management systems and PDF internals.
• Experience building and operating reliable, observable production systems.
