Software Development Engineer – Firecracker

About the role

Join the AWS Lambda team to build and evolve Firecracker, an open‑source virtualization technology that powers serverless and container workloads at Amazon. You will work on a high‑impact product used globally across multiple AWS services and integrated by many internal teams.

Key responsibilities

• Understand customer requirements and design new features for Firecracker.
• Own and automate operational aspects of the platform.
• Contribute ideas and improvements to increase development efficiency and product quality.
• Innovate within the emerging ephemeral compute space.
• Maintain the Firecracker open‑source project and participate in community engagement.
• Participate in on‑call rotations, typically once every eight weeks.

Required profile

• Enthusiastic, curious, and reliable with a strong sense of ownership.
• Professional software development experience (non‑internship).
• Interest and knowledge in low‑level software engineering or systems programming.
• Passion for contributing to open‑source projects.

Required skills

• Experience with Linux environments.
• Proficiency in C, C++ and/or Rust.
