Software Engineer 3 – Query Engine (Dublin or Remote, Ireland)

About the role

Join MongoDB’s Server Query team to design and build a world‑class distributed open‑source query engine. You will work on the MongoDB Query Language, from parsing through optimization, plan selection and execution, impacting transactional, time‑series and analytical workloads.

Key responsibilities

• Understand, maintain and improve the existing MongoDB query engine.
• Design, implement, test and support new features that enhance query performance, robustness and language capabilities.
• Collaborate with engineers across a large code base to ensure seamless integration of new functionality.
• Coordinate with client driver teams, cloud services, enterprise tools, support, consulting, education and marketing groups.

Required profile

• 3+ years of experience in data‑intensive environments.
• Hands‑on experience building industrial‑strength software.
• Strong computer‑science fundamentals in data structures, algorithms and software design/architecture.
• Experience working with large code bases.
• B.Sc. in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience developing database systems is a plus.
• Interest in the theory and practice of database query engines; advanced degree in the domain is a plus.
