Staff Nurse – Emergency & Acute Medicine (Mayo University Hospital)

About the role

The Health Service Executive (HSE) is seeking a qualified Staff Nurse to join the Emergency and Acute Floor at Mayo University Hospital. This permanent, full‑time position works across the Emergency Department, Escalation area and Acute Medical Assessment Unit, providing high‑quality care to patients in a fast‑paced acute hospital setting.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care to patients presenting with emergency and acute medical conditions.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to assess, plan, and implement treatment plans.
• Monitor patient vital signs, administer medications, and perform clinical procedures in accordance with hospital protocols.
• Participate in patient handovers, documentation, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Respond promptly to clinical escalations and support the Acute Medical Assessment Unit operations.

Required profile

• Registered General Nurse with current registration in Ireland.
• Demonstrated post‑registration experience in an acute hospital setting within the last 24 months.
• Eligibility to work in Ireland; open to both HSE and non‑HSE applicants.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Required skills

• Clinical assessment and patient monitoring.
• Administration of intravenous therapies and emergency medications.
• Proficiency in using hospital information systems for documentation.
