Technical Writer – Documentation for Smart Home Hardware & Cloud

About the role

We are seeking a Technical Writer to own the end‑to‑end documentation experience for Nabu Casa’s hardware and cloud services. You will translate complex technical concepts into clear, accurate guides that help a global community of smart‑home users and developers succeed independently.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, create and maintain documentation for new features, integrations and releases in sync with product shipping cycles.
• Collaborate directly with engineers to research, verify and simplify technical content, reducing their documentation workload.
• Audit existing docs, flag outdated material, fill gaps and improve structure, tone and discoverability.
• Define and enforce documentation standards, style guides and templates to ensure consistency across community contributions.
• Tri­age feedback from users, support and internal teams, prioritising improvements that enhance user outcomes.
• Contribute to developer experience by writing API guides, integration docs and contributor documentation.
• Track documentation quality signals such as support ticket trends and community feedback, reporting on them regularly.

Required profile

• Strong technical writing background with a portfolio of developer‑oriented documentation.
• Ability to read and understand code (Python, YAML, REST APIs) sufficiently to produce accurate content with minimal hand‑holding.
• Good understanding of smart‑home hardware and electronics, capable of basic troubleshooting.
• Experience with docs‑as‑code workflows and high autonomy in a fast‑moving environment.
