Virtualization Engineer

About the role

SMBC Group is looking for an experienced VMware Systems Engineer to join its Enterprise Virtualization Group in Tralee. The role focuses on designing, deploying and operating critical VMware and broader enterprise infrastructure platforms for a global financial institution.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure, upgrade and maintain servers, storage platforms, networking and telecommunications equipment.
• Deploy and manage server operating systems, database software, file services, authentication platforms, email servers, backup systems and firewalls.
• Perform regular hardware and platform upgrades to ensure stability, performance and security.
• Monitor system performance daily, identify risks and optimisation opportunities.
• Provide 2nd/3rd line support for infrastructure issues and act as escalation point for major incidents.
• Participate in incident response and recovery for high‑severity outages.
• Design, implement and support VMware infrastructure solutions aligned with enterprise standards.
• Maintain and optimise existing VMware environments to ensure high availability and performance.

Required profile

• Proven experience with enterprise‑level VMware environments.
• Strong background in server, storage and network infrastructure.
• Ability to deliver 2nd/3rd line support and handle major incident escalations.
• Passion for infrastructure design and a desire to build a long‑term career in a fast‑growing financial institution.
