Boat Maintenance Technician

About the role

Le Boat, part of the Travelopia group, is recruiting a Boat Maintenance Technician in County Galway to prepare its boat yard for the upcoming season. The role covers receiving boats, winter preparations, spring commissioning, fall hauling and stocking the marine shop. It suits someone with their first step into mechanical or electrical technical work in tourism, or an experienced technician.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the fleet to the highest standards so that boats are in impeccable condition for presentation.
• Follow manufacturer maintenance schedules.
• Install electrical and mechanical equipment and carry out small fiberglass repairs (training provided).
• Work with the Head Tech and Base Manager to prioritise tasks and travel to off-site locations for emergency repairs.
• Take part in hauling, launching, commissioning, de-commissioning and gas dock operations.
• Handle mechanical maintenance and repairs on 36 and 45ft fiberglass boats, including pumps, batteries, diesel engines, electrical, propane and hydraulic connections.

Required profile

• Technical studies or hands-on experience with diesel engines, hydraulic systems, water pumps or HVAC repair and general maintenance.
• Ability to interpret specifications and installation instructions.
• Valid driver's licence and ability to live at commuting distance from the Portumna base.
• Fluency in English and full eligibility to work in Ireland.
• Previous boat maintenance experience, knowledge of marine diesels and a passion for boating are highly advantageous.
