Communications Operator – Recruit Training Pathway

About the role

The Irish Defence Forces are seeking motivated individuals to join as Communications Operators through a structured recruit training pathway. You will start as a General Service Recruit, receive full military training, and then specialise in operating and maintaining secure communications systems that support Army, Navy, Air Corps and special operations units.

Key responsibilities

• Operate military voice, data and radio communication equipment in training, daily operations and overseas deployments.
• Maintain and troubleshoot communication hardware to ensure reliable, secure connectivity.
• Support commanders and units by providing timely communication services during operations.
• Collaborate with the CIS Corps to implement communication solutions across all Defence Forces branches.

Required profile

• Motivated individual with an interest in technology and teamwork.
• Willingness to complete twelve weeks of basic recruit training followed by specialised communications training.
• Physical fitness and ability to work in disciplined, operational environments.

Required skills

• Operation of military communications equipment.
• Maintenance of radio and data communication systems.
• Understanding of secure voice and data transmission principles.
