Consultant Physician – Endocrinology & Diabetes

About the role

The Hospital seeks an experienced Consultant Physician to lead and develop integrated diabetes care across its acute and ambulatory services. The role combines direct patient management, service development, teaching, and research within the Endocrinology and Diabetes department.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive diabetes care for out‑patients, in‑patients and community referrals.
• Lead modernised care pathways, including virtual GP queries, virtual case reviews, rapid‑access clinics and specialist nurse‑led services.
• Supervise and mentor multidisciplinary teams, including specialist nurses and health‑care professionals.
• Participate in on‑call duties for general medical and endocrinology services.
• Contribute to departmental planning, strategic development, and quality‑improvement initiatives.
• Engage in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching activities.
• Support research projects related to diabetes care in both inpatient and ambulatory settings.

Required profile

• Medical qualification with full registration to practise in Ireland.
• Specialist training and accreditation in Endocrinology and Diabetes Mellitus.
• Demonstrated experience in leading diabetes services within a hospital setting.
• Ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and drive service innovation.
• Commitment to teaching, research and continuous professional development.
