County Librarian – Lead Library Service

About the role

The County Librarian provides strategic leadership and overall management of the Kerry Library Service, ensuring it serves as a central hub for information, learning, culture, and community engagement across the county.

Key responsibilities

• Set direction and oversee high‑quality service delivery for all branch, mobile, and specialist libraries.
• Lead policy, strategy, innovation, and service improvement in line with national library standards and local authority goals.
• Implement the objectives of the National Public Library Strategy 2023‑2027 and the Kerry Library Development Plan 2024‑2028.
• Identify opportunities for innovation and capital investment, and secure funding to strengthen library services.
• Ensure libraries function as vibrant community spaces supporting literature, arts, culture, and lifelong learning.

Required profile

• Proven experience in senior library or information service management.
• Strong understanding of national library standards and local authority frameworks.
• Ability to lead strategic initiatives and manage resources effectively.
• Commitment to promoting community‑focused services and cultural programmes.
