General Manager – Medicine Directorate

About the role

The General Manager of the Medicine Directorate will lead the strategic direction and operational delivery of medical services within the HSE Mid West region. Reporting to senior leadership, this role is responsible for ensuring high‑quality patient care, efficient resource use, and alignment with national health policies.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the directorate’s strategic plan, aligning with HSE objectives.
• Oversee budgeting, financial performance, and resource allocation for medical services.
• Lead, mentor, and evaluate senior medical and administrative staff.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and quality improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with external partners, hospitals, and community health providers.
• Monitor performance metrics and drive continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in senior healthcare management or equivalent leadership role.
• Proven track record of managing large, multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong understanding of Irish health service structures and policies.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
