Health and Safety Officer – Residential Construction

About the role

We are looking for a Health and Safety Officer to manage health and safety on our residential construction site in Blessington. Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, you will implement Cairn Homes’ safety management system and support the successful delivery of the project.

Key responsibilities

• Work with the construction management team to maintain a safe and productive work environment.
• Continuously improve health and safety standards within the company management system and on site.
• Monitor and enforce the Cairn Homes Health & Safety Management System.
• Identify site‑specific hazards and ensure they are documented and mitigated.
• Maintain clear communication with the H&S Manager and keep site folders and statutory records up to date.
• Ensure contractors adhere to site rules and statutory H&S requirements.
• Assist in developing risk assessments and safe systems of work.
• Support contractor compliance and coordinate safe work practices.
• Enforce site‑specific disciplinary procedures.
• Conduct H&S audits, address non‑conformances, and contribute to accident investigations.
• Deliver toolbox talks and identify training needs for site personnel and contractors.

Required profile

• Minimum 4 years’ experience managing safety systems in construction.
• Qualification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., IOSH membership preferred).
• Strong ability to work independently within a safety management framework.
• Proven relationship‑building skills with project stakeholders and statutory bodies.
• Experience chairing health and safety meetings and presentations.
