About the role
The IKON Materials Scientist will lead research and development of renewable, alternative and functional additives for Kingspan’s building‑envelope solutions. Working across polyurethane (PU) and polyisocyanurate (PIR) systems, the role focuses on sustainable, low‑carbon material pathways and integrates new materials into high‑performance insulation products.
Key responsibilities
- Lead R&D projects on alternative, renewable and emerging material systems for insulation and building‑envelope applications.
- Design, characterise and optimise material formulations, including fibrous, particulate, bio‑derived and hybrid technologies.
- Assess material performance against thermal, fire, mechanical, acoustic, moisture and ageing criteria.
- Develop pilot‑scale experiments and ensure scalability and commercial viability of new material solutions.
- Support renewable‑content calculations, sustainability reporting and life‑cycle assessment (LCA) for new products.
Required profile
- Advanced degree (MSc or PhD) in Materials Science, Polymer Chemistry or a related field.
- Proven experience in polymer or insulation material development, preferably with PU/PIR systems.
- Strong background in sustainable material research and low‑carbon product development.
- Ability to work cross‑functionally with engineering, product development and sustainability teams.
