Senior Engineer – Preconstruction (Hybrid, Galway)

About the role

A well‑established main contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Engineer to join its Galway City head office on a permanent, hybrid basis. The role focuses on pre‑construction activities, supporting the transition of projects from design to on‑site delivery and ensuring technical readiness before mobilisation.

Key responsibilities

• Support the hand‑over of projects from pre‑construction to operational delivery.
• Coordinate all project set‑up activities prior to site commencement.
• Review drawings, specifications, programmes and technical documentation for project readiness.
• Conduct buildability reviews and flag potential construction or coordination issues early.
• Collaborate with design, commercial, planning, procurement and operations teams.
• Help define project execution strategies, logistics planning and sequencing.
• Gather subcontractor and supplier information required before mobilisation.
• Assist in preparing construction methodologies and technical submissions.
• Ensure all approvals and documentation are in place before hand‑over to site teams.
• Liaise with site management to guarantee a smooth project launch.
• Participate in internal project review meetings and planning workshops.
• Promote best practice and continuous improvement across delivery processes.

Required profile

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 + years post‑graduate experience as a senior engineer.
• Proven experience delivering large‑scale building projects.
• Strong understanding of construction methodology and sequencing.
• Excellent technical and coordination abilities.
• Experience working closely with site management and subcontractors.
• Ability to review drawings and identify construction challenges.
• Strong communication, organisational and commercial awareness.
