Senior Instructor – Training/Education

About the role

Ability West is seeking a Senior Instructor to lead and deliver a range of training programmes for adults with intellectual disabilities and autism. The role is based in Galway and involves both curriculum development and direct classroom instruction, supporting the organisation’s mission of empowering people to live self‑directed lives.

Key responsibilities

• Act as Person in Charge when the Manager of Training Services is absent.
• Design, plan, implement and evaluate QQI‑accredited learning modules covering personal safety, personal care, technology use, visual arts, nutrition, relaxation techniques and health‑related exercise.
• Deliver courses and workshops, ensuring they meet individual preferences and learning abilities.
• Support the Day Services Manager and other instructors in delivering modules and fostering community integration.
• Maintain and regularly update individual support plans in line with New Directions Interim Standards.

Required profile

• Relevant experience in adult education, preferably within disability or health services.
• Ability to work independently and lead a team in the manager’s absence.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Commitment to inclusive, person‑centred practice.

Required skills

• Experience developing and delivering QQI‑based training programmes.
• Knowledge of personal care, safety, technology use and arts‑based learning for adults with intellectual disabilities.

What we offer

• Full‑time permanent contract (35 hours per week).
• Salary range €36,219 – €51,722, dependent on experience.
