Clinical Nurse Specialist – Palliative Care

About the role

Marymount University Hospital and Hospice in Cork is seeking a compassionate Clinical Nurse Specialist to deliver person‑centred palliative care within the community. The role involves working closely with a multidisciplinary team to assess, plan and coordinate high‑quality care for patients and their families.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive assessments covering physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs using evidence‑based palliative care practice.
• Develop, implement and review individualized care plans in collaboration with patients, families, carers and the multidisciplinary team.
• Coordinate investigations, treatments, referrals, follow‑up and care pathways to ensure safe and seamless service delivery.
• Provide education, information, advice and counselling to support self‑management and symptom control.
• Participate in case review, medication management, service development and promotion of best practice and clinical standards.

Required profile

• Registered nurse or midwife on the active Register of Nurses and Midwives (An Bord Altranais) or eligible for registration.
• Minimum of 1 year post‑registration full‑time experience, including at least 1 year in palliative care nursing.
• Completion of a Level 9 (or higher) qualification relevant to specialist practice, equivalent to 60 ECTS credits.
