Consultant General Physician – University Hospital Limerick

About the role

The University Hospital Limerick is seeking a Consultant General Physician to join its multidisciplinary medical team. This permanent, full‑time position involves delivering high‑quality specialist care to adult patients and contributing to the hospital’s clinical leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient medical services in general internal medicine.
• Lead and supervise junior doctors, medical students and allied health professionals.
• Develop and implement patient care pathways and service improvement initiatives.
• Participate in teaching, audit, research and continuous professional development activities.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated, patient‑centred care.

Required profile

• Medical degree with full registration as a specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners in Ireland.
• Significant experience in general internal medicine at consultant level.
• Commitment to delivering safe, evidence‑based clinical care.
• Ability to work effectively within a large teaching hospital environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency in using electronic health record systems.
