Consultant – Respiratory Integrated Care

About the role

The Health Service Executive (HSE) Mid West is recruiting a Consultant in Respiratory Integrated Care to join the multidisciplinary team at University Hospital Limerick. This permanent, full‑time position provides clinical leadership for respiratory services, drives the development of integrated care pathways, and ensures high‑quality patient management across acute and community settings.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver specialist respiratory assessment, diagnosis and treatment to in‑patients and out‑patients.
• Lead and coordinate a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement integrated care pathways for chronic respiratory conditions.
• Supervise and mentor junior doctors, registrars and allied health professionals.
• Participate in on‑call rotas, emergency response and acute respiratory interventions.
• Contribute to clinical audit, research projects and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Medical degree with full registration on the Specialist Division of the Irish Medical Council Register in respiratory medicine.
• Eligibility to work in Ireland and a valid HSE contract.
• Proven experience in managing acute and chronic respiratory diseases within a hospital setting.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across disciplines.

Required skills

• Clinical expertise in respiratory medicine.
• Interpretation of pulmonary function tests and other respiratory investigations.
• Management of chronic respiratory conditions such as COPD, asthma and interstitial lung disease.
• Proficiency with electronic health record systems.
